Black in PR
For Black people, racism is not new.
For Black PR professionals, discrimination and inequity in the industry is unfortunately familiar. The COVID-19 pandemic layered with a national spotlight on racial injustice, which has long been the reality of Black people across the country—presented a new set of challenges and experiences for Black professionals in PR.
And with the Derek Chauvin trial beginning this week—Black people everywhere are reminded of the painstaking and unforgettable video capturing the death of George Floyd that finally forced Americans to take a long hard look at ugly underbelly of this country, a truth that has been self-evident for Black people and other marginalized groups since this country’s inception.
And so here we are. These are our stories. Told by Black PR professionals who represent the many levels of experience and disciplines of the industry. Those who work for top PR agencies to those that own their own companies. We share our stories, on our terms, in the hopes of moving towards substantial change in the industry that we love.
