A call for action, accountability, and transparency in the Public Relations and Communications industry for Black people.
WHO WE ARE.
Hold The PRess is an advocacy group dedicated to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in the public relations and communications industry. The initiative was founded by four Black women in response to public relations agencies voicing support in the wake of protests against police brutality; however, Black professionals remain underrepresented and marginalized within the industry. Hold The PRess aims to address this disparity and create lasting change through advocacy and action.
THE INITIATIVE
In June 2020, we issued a call for accountability after observing public relations agencies post insensitive and disconnected messages on social media, purportedly in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. As the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery sparked widespread protests and brought immense pain to the Black community, we sought to highlight the disconnect between these statements and the lack of meaningful action within the industry.
Demanding True Diversity in PR
For too long, the PR industry has underrepresented and failed to recognize the talented professionals and agencies of color. This year, we're taking a united stand.
We are calling on media outlets like Observer to ensure their annual PR power lists accurately reflect the diversity within our profession. Their 2024 lists glaringly lack representation.
Whether you're an ally or part of a diverse agency, add your name to our open letter demanding Observer take concrete actions toward greater inclusivity and representation.
Together, we can create an equitable PR industry that celebrates excellence across all backgrounds and perspectives. Lend your voice to this crucial movement.
